What it is

Real change in how you think, cope, relate, and feel — evidence-based talk therapy, not just venting.

A therapist and patient in conversation

What is therapy at the Center for Integrative Psychiatry?

Therapy — also called counseling or psychotherapy — is structured, private conversation with a licensed professional, aimed at real change: how you think, cope, relate, and feel. It's an evidence-based medical service, not just venting, and for many conditions it's a first-line treatment on its own or alongside medication.

Our therapists work with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches. CBT is one of the most-studied talk therapies: practical, skills-focused, and centered on the link between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Your therapist will match the approach to you — not the other way around.

The difference

Your therapist practices inside a psychiatry clinic.

On one chart, alongside prescribers. If your care ever needs more than talk therapy, the next step is down the hall — not a referral into someone else's waitlist.

What to expect

From your first session onward

Step one · First session

What happens in your first session

See what's involved

Your first session is an intake — a careful look before any plan is set.

Your therapist asks what brings you in, your history, and what you want to be different.
Together you set concrete goals, so you both know whether therapy is working.
You leave with a plan and a standing time.

There's no lock-in — frequency and duration are decisions you make together, revisited openly.

How therapy and psychiatry work together

See what's involved

If you also see one of our prescribers, your therapist and provider share one chart and one clinic.

Your medication plan and your therapy actually inform each other.
A change one provider sees, the other knows about.
No being the messenger between two offices — coordination is the default.

Common questions about therapy

Referrals, how therapy and psychiatry fit together, online sessions, and insurance.

A warm, reassuring clinic setting

No — you can request an appointment directly. Tell us you're looking for therapy and whether you prefer in-person or video, and we'll match you with a therapist. Some insurance plans have their own referral rules; we'll flag that when we verify your benefits.

Therapists treat through structured talk therapy; psychiatric providers evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medication. Many people do well with one, many with both — your intake will help sort that out. If you need both, they're on the same team here.

Yes — all of our therapists see patients by secure video, for anyone located in Texas. Many patients mix formats, coming into Coppell when they can and meeting by video when they can't.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a practical, skills-based therapy built on the link between thoughts, feelings, and actions. You and your therapist identify patterns that keep a problem going and practice concrete ways to change them. It's one of the most researched forms of talk therapy.

Adolescents and adults; for younger children, please call (469) 557-2646 to confirm care for your child's age.
